A recently added component
of this project involves the application of Global Positioning System (GPS)
measurements for tectonic geodesy. Working with colleagues from MIT and
from Syria, we have installed a network of 37 GPS monuments in Syria.
The network involves both near-field and far-field stations to assess strain
accumulation, fault locking, and the overall plate motions.
