Description  
    Abstract
    The dataset contains location, time, and focal mechanism solutions
    for earthquakes 01/01/1977-08/31/2000 with surface wave magnitude greater than
    or equal to about 5.5  Solutions are found with the Harvard
    centroid-moment tensor (CMT) method, which uses long period surface
    and body wave modeling to estimate the optimum focal mechanism.

    Procedures_Used
    The procedure for finding centroid-moment tensor solutions
    is described in Dziewonski and Woodhouse, 1983a. Attribute
    descriptions are in Dziewonski et al., 1987a.  This ArcInfo
    coverage was made from the published CMT solutions (Cornell
    GIS Group, 1998).

Description  
    Abstract
    The dataset contains location, time, and focal mechanism solutions
    for earthquakes 01/01/1977-08/31/2000 with surface wave magnitude greater than
    or equal to about 5.5  Solutions are found with the Harvard
    centroid-moment tensor (CMT) method, which uses long period surface
    and body wave modeling to estimate the optimum focal mechanism.

Description  
    Abstract
    The dataset contains location, time, and focal mechanism solutions
    for earthquakes 01/01/1977-08/31/2000 with surface wave magnitude greater than
    or equal to about 5.5  Solutions are found with the Harvard
    centroid-moment tensor (CMT) method, which uses long period surface
    and body wave modeling to estimate the optimum focal mechanism.

Description  
    Abstract
    The dataset contains location, time, and focal mechanism solutions
    for earthquakes 01/01/1977-08/31/2000 with surface wave magnitude greater than
    or equal to about 5.5  Solutions are found with the Harvard
    centroid-moment tensor (CMT) method, which uses long period surface
    and body wave modeling to estimate the optimum focal mechanism.

    DIP_RAKE--dip and rake rounded to nearest ten degrees
    SYMBOL--symbol number for appropriate focal mechanism symbol
    DATE--date of earthquake in MM/DD/YY format
    HOUR--hour of earthquake
    MIN--minute of earthquake
    SEC--second of earthquake
    SECCOR--centroid time from the inversion measured from origin time
    LAT--latitude in decimal degrees
    LON--longitude in decimal degrees
    CODE--source of epicenter information
    MLI = NEIC monthly listings
    PDE = Preliminary listings
    ISC = ISC catalog
    DEPTH--depth of hypocenter in kilometers
    The following six attributes use the Aki and Richards (1980)
    convention for fault angles.
    STRIKE--strike for best double couple
    DIP--dip for best double couple

    RAKE2--rake for second nodal plane
    The following nine attributes are the moment tensor expressed in its
    principle axis system:
    EIGVAL1--eigenvalue of eigenvector 1
    PLUNGE1--plunge of eigenvector 1
    STRIKEA--strike of eigenvector 1
    EIGVAL2--eigenvalue of eigenvector 2
    PLUNGE2--plunge of eigenvector 2
    STRIKEB--strike of eigenvector 2
    EIGVAL3--eigenvalue of eigenvector 3
    PLUNGE3--plunge of eigenvector 3
    STRIKEC--strike of eigenvector 3
    T_MOMENT--scalar moment, to be multiplied by 10^EXPONENT
    EXPONENT--exponent of all moment values;  24 means that all moments
    are value*10^24
